The Passion Project

My passion project reflects my interests in the environment and protecting the wildlife we were blessed with. Specifically, my project tackles the issue of pollution’s effects on seabirds, as they are a key species that directly impact both the land and sea. In a hypothetical partnership with the University of Washington housed organization known as COASST, I pledge to take part in training to take data on seabird populations and learn more specifically what is impacting their lives on a daily basis.

Pitch for Progress

What better way is there to market something than with a short, sweet elevator pitch? Hoping to capture the attention of my audience, I created a thirty-second pitch to emphasize the importance of aiding birds against pollution.

“Piper. A short film by Pixar in which a little baby sandpiper conquers her fear of the tide. She’s the cutest little bird you’ve ever seen, tiny and innocent. But Pixar never continued her story. For all we know, she could have choked on a piece of plastic or been buried in a slick of oil. SImilarly, an estimated 1,000,000 birds die from plastic pollution every year. There are 312 species of seabirds alone, and they all matter. Don’t let yourself be the cause of little Piper’s untimely demise. Remember, humans aren’t the only things on this planet.”

The PSA

An assignment that let creativity flow, the my PSA aims to convince the people to take a stand against pollution in a unique way. Utilizing storytelling, edgy humor, and practiced editing, I aimed to create something that would catch an audience off-guard, and would entertain more than depress or frighten those who watch it. At the very least, it’s a memorable experience.

The Vlog

Aiming to bring two different topics together in a comfortable conversation, James McCourt and I collaborated on a vlog. In our video, we discussed our passion projects and their similarities and differences. Both issues are incredibly different, with James focusing on racism and myself on seabirds, yet we found that they both are incredibly impactful to society in their own respects.
